Moving? for real?

Journal Entry: Thu Apr 2, 2009, 5:28 AM
Well After doing a pole to see how people feel about me starting anew on a new account. I have decided that when my current subscription is up, I will be starting over.

I will miss all the page views I’ have collected over the years, and of course my Daily Dev I earned last April.

There Are a lot of downs, but also a lot of ups. I can start Fresh Free of the burden of keosuki. (I mean if it were just Keo, I would have kept it.)

I feel I’ve really out grown the name I chose back in grade 10 oh so many years ago.

I have been a deviant member since 2003(lurked since beta). I have seen artist come and go. I have seen deviant art do some really stupid things, and I have hung around to see them redeem themselves at a later date.

It’s true that there is a lot put on deviant art these days that I don’t agree should be here, but at the same time, I don’t think I could have found a better place for my art to evolve online.

Thank you to all of you for all your comments, faves and watches over these past 6 years. All your support has really been awesome and motivating. I hope that most of you continue to watch me at the new account when the time comes.

The new account will be called fluxfox :iconfluxfox: after the nom de plume I use for steam punk based websites and craft work.

Those of you who want to get a head start watching pls feel free to do so. I will slowly start to move things over during my last month of subscription.

And in the worlds of Monty python “and now for something completely different.”

Projects planned for this year.

Phone Friend Photo Shoot. I will be doing free photo shoots for all my friends this year. Since my phone can display pictures with peoples profiles I have decided to have fun shooting all my contact list this year just to use in my phone as well as for the fun it will be. (So all you people who want to be in on this Note or email me so I can make more of a list.)

A special top secret photo shoot to do with a novel: shhhh I can’t tell but it will be awesome.

Esty: I have found that I have a decent knack for making cool weird stuff animals. I will be making some more to sell on esty this year.

Steam Punk: I have in the works a few steam punk mods and designs I plan to implement this year, it shall be great.

Web Comic: Midnightcity :iconmidnightcity: and I have been prepping our web comic for most of this year. We will be uploading it starting the end of the school year (the college one). So keep an eye out!

Dude, You just drank that guy!

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 24, 2009, 8:40 PM
"Suck" does not.

I was invited to a private screening of an 85% finished Canadian film tonight.

It is called “SUCK”, and it is Writen and directed by Rob Stefaniuk. (Tho I am pretty srue it is a remake of the 2007 13 minute film by Ben Ketai. ... yeah I know It's weird to know that)

THe film happily did not live up to its name.

Staring a mostly Canadian cast, it also had some great old school stars (Alice cooper, David Folly, Iggy pop, and Moby!).

The movie is about a band trying to make it big, the female bassist in the group(Jessica Paré;)leaves one night with a man (who is soooooooo obviously a vampire played by Dimitri Coats) and returns a day later at their next gig changed. Being a vampire has an effect on the crowed at their shows and the bands popularity rises. They are forced to decide whether or not it is worth losing their souls for rock and roll (I would more than love to spoil the plot and let people in on more of the awesome humor).

All and all I loved the movie. The first few scenes are rather slow and need to be cut better. Some of the camera work when they are playing a gig could be filmed much better. The film is not finished yet so they will be taking our reports into account when finishing it.

The one scene that really needs more to it is when the vampire turns the girl. It starts at his house in Montreal and her sitting in his living room with other obvious vampires standing around her. He starts down the staircase in full song and it doesn’t even make sense why. After that scene is over you can now start to enjoy the movie.

Alice Cooper’s Acting is awesome. I am so happy he is in the film.

I don’t know the actors name, but the guy playing the bands roady “Hugo “was the best part of the movie. He was French Canadian and had all the best lines. Including my personal faveourite “Dude, You just drank that guy!” (Someone is fed on with a straw in their neck).

Dave Foley plays the band’s manager; it was good to see him in films again. He has always been really funny. [link]

Do not expect to go see a serious movie. The first part of the movie makes you think it may be and they’re just doing a bad job of it.
It is very campy, and obviously made to be so. Due to its campy nature will give you a some good laughs. (The scene where they try to cross the border is awesome.)

I look forward to seeing this movie again when it’s finished and the CG effects are all put in (Seeing it without makes some peoples deaths seem even funnier without any effects).

Go See It.

P.S. No, the vampires in this film did not sparkle in daylight! (I really wish twilight never existed, it really makes vampires look dumb)

Deviant Art Copyright

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 11, 2009, 12:36 PM
Artist vs. Commissioner.

This week we look at DeviantArt's Copyright policy

"Copyright

deviantART is, unless otherwise stated, the owner of all copyright and data rights in the Service and its contents. Individuals who have posted works to deviantART are either the copyright owners of the component parts of that work or are posting the work under license from a copyright owner or his or her agent or otherwise as permitted by law. You may not reproduce, distribute, publicly display or perform, or prepare derivative works based on any of the Content including any such works without the express, written consent of deviantART or the appropriate owner of copyright in such works. deviantART does not claim ownership rights in your works or other materials posted by you to deviantART (Your Content). You agree not to distribute any part of the Service other than Your Content in any medium other than as permitted in these Terms of Service or by use of functions on the Service provided by us. You agree not to alter or modify any part of the Service unless expressly permitted to do so by us or by use of functions on the Service provided by us. "

So whats all this mean? I'll Give you the short version.

All images on deviant art (not the ones uploaded by the artists who have accounts on it)belong to deviantArt.

What you upload belongs to you, (provided that it was yours to begin with)

Taking anything from the site and altering it for your own uses is a no no without the written consent of DA or the artist in question.

........................

All and all it's a pretty good copyright agreement as far as the internet is concerned. Artist is not screwed and they protect themselves as well.

A+ DeviantART, you guys are doing good.

Follow-up

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 3, 2009, 11:21 AM
Artist vs. Commissioner.

Follow up to the last journal on copyright. [link]

:iconlined-paper: asked "But what about a digital submission from Canada to an American website".

Now as far as the Internet goes, When a website (such as Deviantart.com), a message board, or a Blog. READ THE USER AGREEMENT! Yeah, yeah I know. I hate reading the User agreements too. It seems like a waste of time and a bore, but you should know what you’re getting into.

Posting to a web community does not constitute it being a commissioner. So the place where the copyright resigns will reside in the location of the artist.

There are a few loopholes. The biggest one being user and copyright agreements on the webpage.

Choosing to agree to a user agreement counts as a form of contract. If it claims that “All your base belong to us,” then they in fact all your base do indeed belong to them.

This also works with copyright. Now some of them have some wordy ways of putting things. If you’re unsure of what it means, ask someone. It’s better to be safe then sorry.

Now don’t confuse this with places that require you to agree to use to allow them to use your work in self-advertising. This is something commonly found in a lot of online art communities (also this would be stated in the user agreement.). This does not mean that they are claiming to own your copyright. It means you consent to them using your artwork in various ways to promote their site.

The reason they do this is to gather advertisers to their website since in most cases (like deviantart) they provide a free service, and need to find ways to market it so they can afford to keep it going.

(My feelings on this) I personally agree to these statements providing it isn’t conjoined to them being allowed to use it on memorabilia or achieve profit on selling my work. I have been a member of the deviant art community since 2003, and I happy to do my share to keep it going. I often even have a paid account. No such thing as a free lunch after all.

In summery, the best thing you can do when worried about losing copyright when on a web community is to Read the User Agreement.

Thanks for the question.
